Newsletter 5 now available

Download the latest newsletter here. This one has a report from the Chairman explaining some of the issues that have led to halt in trail building. There's an article from the Chief trail builder about what some of these changes will mean, at least until we can come to an agreement with the FC about the future trail building strategy. And, there's a report from the Fundraising secretary about the challenges of raising money for a project like ours.

Trail Building suspended

Please note, following the monthly meeting where news broke that the new '39 Steps' section of trail has failed the FC engineer's inspection and there has been a change in FC policy. Trail building activities are to cease until further notice. This is obviously a great blow to us as we were beginning to make real headway improving and updating the red route to IMBA standards. Please see the forum for more info.

TIMBER BBQ

To celebrate the arrival of Summer (touch wood) the next TIMBER meeting will take the form of a BBQ. Everyone is welcome, not just TIMBER members. It will be held on Thursday the 22nd of May at 6.30pm in the usual location of Oak Lodge, on the High Lodge site. It'll be a great opportunity to see what TIMBER is doing, what we have planned (why it's taking so long!) and what you can do to help.

For more information and if you are planning to come, please e-mail info@timbermtb.org, it'll also help us work out how many to cater for.

'Tightrope'-now officially open!

The Red Route has now been re-routed to take in the new section, officially opened on the 6th and called 'Tightrope'. You can see a video of the trail and the opening ceremony here. So what are you waiting for? Go and try it out!

If you like it, or even if you don't, tell us on the forum or via the contact form. More importantly why not come and help? What we've achieved so far has only been as a result of volunteers just like you, with more people involved the quicker we'll be able to work. What's more you'll be able to have your say about what you want to see in future sections.

Grand Opening of new section - 'Tightrope'

At 11:00am on Saturday 6th of October the new section of Red Route built by TIMBER volunteers is being officially opened. (Morning of the Dusk to Dawn)
This section is the first major piece of work to be completed by TIMBER volunteers and is intended to give a flavour of things to come, including skills and Thetfordesque sweeping bermy bits.
There will be a chance to ride the section and an opportunity to take part in TIMBERS Tightrope challenge with trophies to keep for the top 3 riders, and some fun prizes for the not so top folks. (No pre-entry or entry fee required)
We would love to see you there and would really appreciate your support so please make the effort to show up. Just go to High Lodge and look out for the signs and TIMBER personnel who will direct you.

TIMBER to Help Produce Vital Forestry Policy for Cycling in the Thetford Forest

At the October TIMBER meeting, heated debate ensued about the position of the Forestry Commission regarding the expansion and maintenance of cycling trails in the Thetford Forest.

Forestry Commission representative Darren Edwards was positive about the Forestry's willingness to work with TIMBER members to improve the existing trails, with plans for further expansion in the future.

TIMBER members agreed that it was vital to help Darren produce the Forestry Commission policy document for cycling in the forest, which has to be completed by January.
