DON'T BE A CHUMP AND END UP A STUMP!

Because one of these will mess you up...

As most of you are aware their are some major harvesting operations currently taking place on the Brandon side of the forest.

This area has several sections of popular singletrack and is well used mountain bikers and other forest users. The FC are currently facing a problem with people ignoring signs entering the site. Unfortunately this does mainly seem to be mountain bikes. I fully understand that is tempting to nip past the signs and have a quick blast through but please don't, there is plenty other areas of forest out there. I can't stress enough how dangerous this machinery is! These machines are working hard to fell and process as much timber as possible and are very unlikely to see a passing cyclist and by that point it's too late. I know it might be the last chance you have ride some of these sections, but please do not risk it being you last ride!

TIMBER Learns to Kanga

Print

Today at High Lodge the first batch of TIMBER volunteers were trained to use the Kanga Loader. This should allow us to accelerate our efforts to improve and fix the trails. We learnt how to maneuver the machine over uneven ground and attach the different attachments including trencher, rotavator and post hole borer. Most of all we were taught to take safety VERY seriously.

Thanks to Mark (also a TIMBER volunteer) from Hirebase for the creating and giving us the training. As usual thanks go to the Forestry Commission for their continued support.

Today we also said good bye to FC trail ranger Adam Godwin, who's supported us a lot over the years and will be sorely missed. He's moving to Glentress to sort out the Scots.

YOUR Trails Still Need YOU!

The turn-out on 22nd October was great - and we're receiving positive feed-back on the work.

There's still plenty to do and your help is essential.

The more work we can get done now, the sooner you will have your sweet trails
(and I'm gearing up for a cracking 2012).

Upcoming build days:

YOUR Trails Need YOU!

The Thetford Forest trails are not a natural feature and need to be maintained and developed.

If you have issues with your trails, if you have ideas about what your trails could be then come along. Pitch in with the TIMBER members to see and discuss what the real issues are - first hand. TIMBER can provide a free exit pass from High Lodge for the build day - so it will only cost you your petrol and time. Your trails will only improve with your help. It's as simple as that, so come and make a difference.

For details see here: http://www.timbermtb.org/forum/viewtopic.php?f=6&t=2053

Also a total of 24 hours of trail building entitles you to a free Discovery Pass. Come and go from High Lodge, whenever, to do whatever, for a year.

Trail Conditions

All the trails are in great condition and riding really nicely, a few well used corners starting to break up and get loose but adds to fun!
