Hi and welcome to Timber MTB. The purposes of the Club are to promote and provide facilities for the amateur sport of Mountain Biking in Thetford Forest and community participation in Mountain Biking. Read our constitution to find out more.
We are pretty much the usual mixed bag of riders... racers but no racing snakes, weekend warriors and everything in between. Based in Thetford Forest we don't have any mountains, or even hills, to play with but we do have singletrack in spades... miles and miles of it.
The club has undergone a fairly radical evolution from a group dedicated to improving or even preserving the trail network in Thetford Forest to one which has regular social rides, training sessions, coaching from our BC qualified coach, road trips to far away places less vertically challenged than our little patch of England and dare I say it...racing? While all of this is going on we still find time to work closely with the FC, build and maintain trails and even occasionally have a bit of a laugh.
What do we do?
Build and Maintain Trails: We hold regular trail build and maintenance days using our own equipment to fix problems on the waymarked trails. We aim to improve the standards of the existing trails and make them more interesting. We do this in full cooperation with the Forestry Commission following their rules and procedures.
Trail Inspections: Some of our volunteers are trained to perform trail inspections for the Forestry Commission. We do this to help ensure the existing trail network stays open to the public.
Litter Picking: It's a sad and annoying fact that some people feel the need to drop litter in the forest. As their is no official litter collection in the forest TIMBER volunteers give up their time to pick up litter using Bike trailers donated by BikeArt.
Group Rides and Events: We hold group rides in the forest and occasional trips elsewhere in the UK. We welcome new members and visitors to the area if they want to hook up and ride some of the less well known areas of the forest.
Cycling Advocacy: We try to represent the views of mountain bikers and cyclists locally. This includes taking part in Cycling Development Team Meetings organised by the Forestry Commission with all stakeholders.
We are all volunteers who give up our free time for the club. We are entirely funded by subscriptions and donations from our members and sponsors, so please join us and consider volunteering to help us continue our work. For up to the minute information check out the forum. The photo galleries and video clips give you an idea of what we get up to.
Come along and join in.
